Saluti a tutti!
It has been just over a week since returning from the land of girasoli (sunflowers), castelli (castles), campi di grano (wheat fields), l’arte (art), pasta, cattedrali (cathedrals), gelato, and the golden warmth of the Italian summer sun. Perhaps we are sinking back into the rhythms of our lives at home, or still traveling for the final few weeks before school begins. Perhaps living at Pulicaro feels a bit like a dream — an isolated experience that happened and has passed — or it is possible that its influence continues to wend its way into our present lives…Either way, “you will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart always will be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.” – Miriam Adeney

All dressed up for the Cena Finale!
Our Farm to Table Italy group combined the skills that each student acquired to put on an incredible Cena Finale (Final Feast)! Our menu consisted mainly of ingredients gathered from the farm:
Antipasti – focaccia with rosemary, prosciutto with melon and sheep cheeses with a variety of jams
Primi – handmade pastas of orecchiette with pesto and pici with wild boar ragu
Secondi – stuffed turkey breast and beets and potatoes with rosemary
Dolci – tiramisu and three kinds of gelato

Lavendar and lemons to beautify the serving table.

Benvenuti al tavolo — welcome to the table!

Getting ready to eat!

Prosciutto and melon.

Fresh focaccia.

Sheep cheeses with jams from the farm.

A duo of handmade pastas: orecchiette al pesto and pici al ragu di cinghiale.

Stuffed turkey breasts and roasted beets and potatoes, all from the farm.

Tiramisu cups and chocolate, crema and stracciatela gelatos.
We went out with a bang, and even the sky celebrated our achievements with a spectacular tramonte (sunset).

Our last sunset over Pulicaro.
“You get a strange feeling when you’re about to leave a place…like you’ll not only miss the people you love but you’ll miss the person you are now at this time and this place, because you’ll never be this way ever again.” – Azar Nafisi
We all carry a part of this time in Italy with us, and our growth, learning, and change over those three weeks at Pulicaro will continue to ripple through our lives. Thank you for sharing in the experience!
